Tom Girardi, the ex-husband of singer Erika Jayne, is officially under tutelage supervised by his brother Robert.
Once a famous lawyer, Girardi, 82, had been under temporary guardianship since early February, but guardianship was “officially granted by the court on June 9,” Robert’s attorney Nicholas Van Brunt told Fox News.
Late last week, the court issued the formal guardianship order before issuing letters of guardianship to Robert on Monday.
“The issuance of letters is only the natural outcome of the court granting guardianship on June 9, 2021,” he concluded.

Representatives for Girardi did not immediately respond to Fox News’ request for comment.
According to court documents obtained by People magazine, the reason for the guardianship is Girardi’s “major neurocognitive disorder”. He was diagnosed with Alzheimer’s disease in March.
The June 9 decision gave Robert control over his brother’s welfare and estate.
“This is obviously a heartbreaking situation for Robert, but we agree with the court rulings yesterday,” Van Brunt told the outlet at the time.

News of the guardianship comes as the once famous lawyer faces a scandal and multiple lawsuits. He has been accused of embezzlement on several occasions.
More recently, a judge ruled that former clients he did not provide with their settlement could now continue their collection efforts against Jayne, 49, after a stay had already been imposed on collections of assets from Girardi.
The situation is also complicated by the divorce of Girardi and Jayne, as they also face bankruptcy issues and the juggling of the singer’s lawyers and the backlash from the public.
