She said she was inspired to visit as a result of her work as an ambassador for the United Nations Environment Program (UNEP), particularly after meeting an activist from Ukraine called Ilyess El Kortbi.

“In fact, every day, as a UNEP ambassador, I remember the immense contribution of Ukrainian climatologists, renewable energy experts and environmentalists of all types,” she wrote.

“They’re living through a horrible war funded by fossil fuels. They kind of find the courage to go on and work and campaign for all of humanity. So I always knew that if I had the chance, I’ll try to show off too.” her Instagram post explained.

“On the overnight train to Kyiv, I looked out the window and could make out the endless fields…a reminder that Ukraine is the breadbasket of the world, this bastion of culture, science and humanity is also a cradle of resistance and courage and commitment.

“I can’t tell you how moving this trip has been. Too much to put into words at the moment, but I stand in solidarity, admiration and respect for the people of Ukraine,” Ms Goulding wrote.
