Singer Dolly Parton has donated $1 million to Vanderbilt University Medical Center for pediatric infectious disease research, the hospital announced Wednesday. Parton previously donated to the medical center in April 2020 to help fund COVID-19 vaccine research.

“Dolly’s previous support of infectious disease research, as well as our pediatric cancer program, has already saved countless lives,” said Dr. Jeff Balser, President and CEO of VUMC and Dean of Vanderbilt University School of Medicine, in a statement.

Parton’s donation will fund further research to understand how bacteria and viruses cause disease as well as to diagnose and treat infections in children around the world.
