The Coast Guard has repatriated 46 Cubans found in multiple encounters with authorities at sea near Florida, the agency said Wednesday.

At least three of the stops were made due to a Good Samaritan alert, the Coast Guard said. All of these events happened off the coast of Florida on Monday.

Another was launched by a Key West Coast Guard sector near the Marquesas Keys, a group of islands near Key West, Florida.

Footage released by the Coast Guard shows the migrants on what appear to be makeshift boats in the middle of the ocean. On Wednesday, the crew of the Coast Guard Cutter Isaac Mayo brought Cuban citizens home.

“Sailing the seas in unseaworthy vessels is extremely dangerous and can result in death,” Coast Guard District Seven Lt. Travis Poulos said.

Since Oct. 1, 2021, Coast Guard crews have intercepted 3,016 Cubans, a sharp increase from all of fiscal year 2021 when the agency encountered 838 Cuban migrants.
