The stars of Amazon’s upcoming “Cinderella” remake are toasted on social media after apparently stopping traffic in Los Angeles for a flash mob in the apparent purpose of promoting the film.
The film will mark singer Camila Cabello’s first acting role as she plays the fairytale character who challenges her evil stepsisters and indulges in a hijinx involving a ball, slipper and magic. However, an apparent viral marketing campaign for the film in Los Angeles gained social media attention for all the wrong reasons.
James Corden, Billy Porter, Idina Menzel and Cabello were recorded at an intersection closure in Los Angeles as they and a handful of backup dancers sang and danced to Jennifer Lopez’s “Let’s Get Loud.”
In a video posted by one of the cars stopped for the event, the group of stars can be seen jumping for joy and singing in costumes that appear to be taken straight from the upcoming film. Corden, disguised as a mouse, at one point walks up to the driver’s side window and squeezes his pelvis as he sings the chorus of the song.

It’s unclear if this was a viral promotion for the film or a track that will appear on Corden’s “Late Late Show” on CBS. However, those who saw the video online quickly took to social media to lambast the group for the stunt.
“America, you can keep Corden. Over to you, Great Britain ”, a user joked.
“It would have been great if you didn’t block the traffic to promote your movies. Some people are not privileged and lucky enough to get the fame and the money and have to go to work to make ends meet,” another user wrote.

“I’m officially tagged with James Corden doing hip thrusts. I’ll never be able to listen to this song the same way again.” someone else joked.
“imagine you are having a terrible day and on the way home you are forced to watch camila cabello and james corden dance right in front of you … another wrote.

“This video of Camilla Cabello and James Corden stopping traffic to promote Cinderella is insane. I can 100% guarantee you that if James Corden walks up to my window and starts pushing his hips, I’m going to jail,” someone else added.

As Elle notes, production of Cinderella has been over for some time, but like many films in 2020, their release date has been blocked by the coronavirus pandemic for fear of opening up to a limited audience. It has since landed on Amazon Prime Video where users will be able to stream it directly to their homes starting September 3, 2021.
