NEW DELHI: The CBI embarked on a major operation on Tuesday with nationwide raids carried out in 40 locations in a massive crackdown on an alleged link between NGOs and some Home Ministry officials, which facilitated the unlawful settlement of matters relating to the Foreign Contributions Regulation Act (FCRA).
Acting on information provided by the MHA, the agency made several arrests, including those of officials serving in the FCRA division of the Department of the Interior, who were caught accepting bribes. de-wine. The CBI raids followed a detailed memo sent by the Home Minister, in accordance with the orders of Home Minister Amit Shah, to CBI Director Subodh Kumar Jaiswal on March 29.
The memo listed three FCRA clearance networks that allegedly operated in collusion with government officials. These networks reportedly charged “quick money” or “problem-solving money” to expedite FCRA nods and resolve issues regarding FCRA clearances and formalities. “Upon input from the MHA, CBI officials conducted raids in 40 locations in Delhi, Rajasthan, Chennai, Hyderabad, Coimbatore and Mysore to catch NGO representatives, intermediaries and government officials. the FCRA division of the MHA,” an official said.
