A single public toilet priced at $ 645,000 is causing the stink of some Vancouver residents.
The toilets will be placed in the city’s Cooper’s Park and are funded by the Community Economic Recovery Infrastructure Program, which provides $ 100 million in funding for similar projects, according to reports. The program was created in response to the coronavirus pandemic.
“It’s beyond scratching your head, it’s outrageous,” Liberal jobs critic Todd Stone said, according to Canada Global News. “Why was spending over half a million dollars on toilets more important than the struggling performing arts grants that barely hold up?”

Built by a company based in Portland, Oregon, the toilets cost $ 150,000, according to the Vancouver Park Board, which oversees Cooper’s Park. The company says its toilets are designed to avoid problems commonly encountered with public toilets
“The sleek and modern kiosk deters crime with anti-graffiti wall panels and open gates,” the company says on its website.
The rest of the money will be used to build services and infrastructure in the area needed for the toilet to operate – including the installation of the structural platform and landscaping, officials said.

“We could build a house on an alley for less. It’s crazy, ”he said, according to the Vancouver Sun.
John Irwin, a commissioner for the Vancouver Park Board, argued that work will create jobs for people.
“It will create work for the local people and services for the local people. So yes, the price of the sticker for the toilet is high but … it’s like a toilet tank, it’s practically indestructible” , he told Global News.
