Brooklyn Center mayor says he didn't accept the resignation of the officer who shot Wright

Ben Crump, an attorney for Daunte Wright’s family, spoke at a press conference about Wright’s shooting by police in Minnesota.

Crump said it was a “bittersweet” moment to speak to the crowd because the family of George Floyd, whom he also represents, came to support Wright’s family.

He has expressed outrage since Wright was killed just 10 miles from where the trial of former Minneapolis cop Derek Chauvin is taking place.

Crump said it was difficult for him to understand that a police officer would “kill another unarmed black man” in such a critical trial over excessive force.

“If there ever was a time when no one should be killed by the police, it was during this supreme trial of Derek Chauvin,” he said. “We believed with all our hearts, Katie, that the police would behave their best. That she would exercise the utmost diligence.

“Sadly, two days ago” Wright was killed during a traffic summons, Crump said.

“Daunte Wright’s life matters,” he said.
