Britney Spears’ father Jamie has reportedly claimed the pop star suffers from dementia.

The two have long been embroiled in a legal drama over the singer’s guardianship – a legal guardianship that puts Jamie in control of his finances and daily life. The trusteeship has been in effect since its public collapse more than ten years ago.

Court proceedings have become more intense in recent times, with Spears herself planning to go to court soon, while interest in the case has also grown and the #FreeBritney movement has gained more followers demanding that the signatory is released from the guardianship.

Today, the dementia allegations came to light in a documentary aired this week in Britain by journalist Mobeen Azhar, according to the Daily Mail.

The outlet reports that Jamie, 68, claims his daughter, 39, suffers from the condition of cognitive decline to justify her continued control over her assets.

According to DM, Azhar calls the dementia allegations “a bit over there” in “The Battle For Britney: Fans, Cash and a Conservatorship”, even comparing it to a “conspiracy theory.”
