A bride collapsed and died early in her marriage in India – so the groom married his younger sister instead after the body was moved to another room, according to reports.
The bride – only identified as Surbhi – collapsed from a heart attack as she traded traditional garlands with her future husband Mangesh Kumar at the start of their ceremony on Thursday, according to News18, citing the Indo-Asian News Service ( IANS).

She was pronounced dead by a doctor who rushed to the festivities in the village of Samspura in Uttar Pradesh, according to the report.
“We didn’t know what to do with the situation. The two families sat down together and someone suggested that my younger sister Nisha be married to the groom,” the woman’s brother, Saurabh, told IANS.
“The families discussed the matter and both agreed,” he said.
“It was a bizarre situation because my younger sister’s wedding took place while my other sister’s corpse lay in another room,” he said, according to The Times of India.

After the joy of the wedding, the family immediately organized the last rites for the deceased bride-to-be, according to the report.
“It was a difficult decision for our family,” one of the women’s uncles, Ajab Singh, told IANS.
“A girl was lying dead in one room and another’s wedding was in another room. We have never experienced such mixed emotions,” he said.
“The sorrow of her death and the bliss of the marriage have not yet penetrated.”
