Brics: Modi, Xi and Putin will meet at the Brics summit on June 24 | India News

NEW DELHI: The Brics 2022 summit to be hosted by Chinese President Xi Jinping will take place on June 24, official sources said. Although the meeting will take place virtually, it will still be watched closely as it will bring together Xi, Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Russian President Vladimir Putin for the first time since Russia launched its “special military operation” in Ukraine.
On May 19, Xi addressed a meeting of BRICS foreign ministers and called for reconciling each other’s core interests and major concerns, respecting each other’s sovereignty, security and development interests, and oppose hegemonism and power politics.
He is likely to use the summit to seek support for his new global security initiative which ostensibly promotes “common security” around the world. Although he did not mention the crisis in Ukraine, Xi had said in remarks aimed at the United States and Europe. that seeking one’s own safety at the expense of others will only create new tensions and new risks.
Despite the unresolved border standoff with India in eastern Ladakh, which continues to block any progress in bilateral relations, Beijing has sought to give the impression that on major regional and international issues, the two countries share similar positions.
