The handover of power from Boris Johnson to Liz Truss has taken place and Britain has a new Prime Minister.

The day started with Mr Johnson giving a farewell speech in Downing Street, before heading to Balmoral to see the Queen and formally step down.

Liz Truss was then appointed Prime Minister by Her Majesty before returning to Westminster to address the nation and appoint her cabinet.
