“We’ve lost the number one engine and we’re coming straight to the airport,” said a crew member, asking air traffic controllers to start dispatching firefighters from the airport. “We’re also going to lose the other engine. It’s getting very hot.”

The plane crashed about two nautical miles south of Kalaeloa, Petty Officer 3rd Class Matthew West of Coast Guard District 14, Hawaii Pacific told CNN.

According to authorities, one of the crew members was rescued by the coast guard, while the other was rescued by airport rescue fire officials based at Daniel K. Inouye International Airport. .

The two crew members were brought to Queens Medical Center, West said, although he has no information on their condition.

According to the company’s website, Transair uses its fleet of Boeing 737s to provide air cargo and charter services throughout Hawaii. The company has existed since 1982.

In a statement, Transair CEO Teimour Riahi said the two crew members who were on board were receiving medical treatment.

“We are working with the Coast Guard, the FAA and the NTSB to secure the scene and investigate the cause,” Riahi said. “Our most immediate concern is the care and recovery of our colleagues.”

FAA records show the aircraft was manufactured in 1975. Its last certificate of airworthiness was issued in 2015 and was due to expire in 2024.

A spokesperson for Boeing told CNN in a statement that the company is “aware of information coming out of Honolulu, Hawaii and is monitoring the situation closely.”

“We are in contact with the US National Transportation Safety Board and are working to gather more information.”

The NTSB initially told CNN it was sending a team of seven investigators to investigate the incident, but the agency later said it would send ten.
