“Real Time” host Bill Maher closed his show Friday night by teaching liberals the “lesson from Afghanistan” amid the ongoing unrest in the Asian nation.
“Blind hatred of America is just as blind as blind love. And we Americans really should have some idea of where we live,” began his Maher monologue. “Watching this s — unfold in Afghanistan, I remembered lately all the conversations I have had with an immigrant, and almost all of them, if we were really talking about it, included the notion, ‘Oh, you guys. people have no idea. All you do is talk and denigrate your own country, but if you knew about the country I’m from you would stop complaining. ‘”
Maher mocked Republicans for being “too sentimental” about America’s patriotism and “too romantic”, but lambasted the liberals for “under-romanticizing” America and accused them of “n ‘have no perspective’.

“Last week the Taliban murdered a comedian,” Maher said, referring to Afghan comedian Nazar Mohammad, who was tortured and executed. “A comedian, a thing like that really touches me. I’ve had two presidents in my head.… Neither experience was pleasant, but I never had to worry about being dragged up. until I died behind a Toyota Tacoma. Have a little perspective on the things we’re screaming about here. ”

“I’m sorry your teacher said something you didn’t like. It won’t be a problem with the Taliban because you are not allowed to go to school. In Saudi Arabia, adult women can being jailed for doing these kinds of things that we consider routine without the permission of a male guardian. China will arrest you if you are not of the right religion and put you in camps, ”said Maher before listing several other injustices in the world.
Maher told his viewers, “If you think America is unrecoverable, turn on the news or get a passport and ticket on one of those sketchy airlines that puts their web address on the plane. one reason Afghan mothers give us their babies. And we should take them. The Americans, right now, should welcome Afghan refugees into their homes and neighborhoods. “
“There is a reason Afghan mothers entrust their babies to us. And we should take them.
“We are not the bad guys. Oppression is what we were trying to stop in Afghanistan. We have failed, but any immigrant will tell you that we have largely succeeded here. is rotten to the core, irreparably racist from its inception and so oppressive, sexist and homophobic that we can’t find a host for the Oscars or for “Jeopardy!” Maher exclaimed.
“The central idea of today’s ‘awakened’ ideology is that America is rotten to the core, hopelessly racist… oppressive, sexist and homophobic.”
“And this is where your new [Afghan] the roommates you have hosted will prove to be so precious because they will turn to you and say “Have you lost your mind?!? … have you ever heard of honor killings, public beheadings, rooftops, arranged marriages with minors, state-sanctioned beatings against women, female genital mutilation, marriage by capture? Because we have. ‘”

“Take a good look at what real oppression looks like. Ask your maid, ask your Uber driver, ask the Asian woman giving you a massage.”
“What’s the lesson from Afghanistan. Maybe everyone in the giant dormitory session that is the Internet should take a good look at what real oppression looks like,” Maher continued. “Ask your maid, ask your Uber driver, ask the Asian woman giving you a massage.… America may not be the country of your college lounge and your Twitter dreams , but no one here is trying to escape by clinging to a plane. No, we wait until we get on the plane to fight – and only because they cut the drinks service. “
