During a Pride Month event at the White House on Wednesday, President Biden targeted Republican states – particularly Florida and Texas – for allegedly homophobic legislation, as he unveiled an executive order to combat these laws.

“I don’t have to tell you about the ultra-MAGA agenda that attacks families and our freedoms. Three hundred discriminatory bills introduced in states across this country,” Biden said. “In Texas, knocking on front doors to harass and investigate parents raising transgender children. In Florida, prosecute Mickey Mouse, for god’s sake.”

Biden’s remarks came after the White House announced the president would sign an executive order to fight state legislation he considers homophobic and to support conversion therapy, “LGBTQI+ families” and Moreover.

According to the White House, a provision will direct the Department of Education to address “the impacts of state laws that target LGBTQI+ students.”

The Department of Education will also be tasked with “publishing a sample school policy to achieve full inclusion of LGBTQI+ students.”

This part of the executive order is likely in response to a Florida law banning sexual identity and gender orientation classes for third graders and below. Liberal opponents of the bill called it a “don’t say gay” bill.

Javier Gomez, a gay teenager who just graduated from high school in Miami, Florida, spoke at the White House event, detailing his coming out process. He said the guidance of his openly gay 5th grade teacher helped ease this process. But, Gomez said, the “hateful” GOP legislation recently passed in Florida could make it harder for other gay kids.

“I fear other students in Florida and across the country may not get the same support because of hateful legislation like the don’t say gay bill,” he said. “But my presence here is proof that we are fighting back.”

Biden also touted efforts to diversify his administration and fight discrimination more broadly.

“I think we have more LGBTQ+ people than any administration or all administrations combined,” Biden said. “A record number of people proudly appointed at all levels of our government.”

Biden also had a message for young people.

“My message to all young people: just be you,” Biden said. “You are loved. You are heard. You are understood. You belong.”

Brock Juarez, a spokesperson for the Florida Agency for Health Care Administration, called Biden’s rhetoric on the issue “ironic.”

“It’s ironic that the Biden administration continues to assert that its policies only support ‘care affirmation’ while simultaneously advocating and promoting permanent, harmful, and irreversible sex reassignment surgeries for children,” he said. Juarez told Fox News Digital. “We have remained consistent that in Florida we must protect children and parental rights, and our Medicaid program should not pay for medical experiments.”

“The Agency for Health Care Administration recently released a report which found that several services for the treatment of gender dysphoria promoted by the federal government – i.e. sex reassignment surgery , cross-sex hormones and puberty blockers – do not meet widely accepted professional medical standards and are investigational and experimental with the potential for long-term harmful effects,” Juarez added. that the Biden administration was using low-quality studies to affirm the guidance it issued.”

Jessica Anderson, executive director of Heritage Action for America, told Fox News Digital that Biden’s decision amounted to using children “for an experimental revival program.”

“The Biden administration needs to wake up and learn that it’s not okay to use children for an experimental wake-up program,” Anderson said. “By pushing to expand access to dangerous cross-sex hormones and puberty blockers for minors without parental consent, Biden’s executive order threatens the physical and mental health — and the future — of our country’s children. It’s also an unprecedented power grab, using the stroke of a pen to intimidate governors and parents who are simply trying to protect children in their state.”

“Just as we’ve seen with COVID lockdowns and mandates, the left is again using dangerously misleading or deeply flawed science to justify its political agenda,” Anderson explained. She cited a new Heritage Foundation study warning that cross-sex hormones and puberty blockers “have only been widely available to the transgender for less than a decade and have not been proven to improve health or reduce the risk of suicide”.

“Calling drugs ‘life-saving health care’ is a lie, and trying to exclude parents from lifelong medical decisions for their children is completely reckless,” Anderson explained. “In fact, as the Heritage study found, expanding access to ‘gender-affirming’ hormones has the potential to put our nation’s youth at risk for serious mental health issues and suicide.”
