Ashton Kutcher has a strong opinion on China’s influence through social media.
The 43-year-old actor recently appeared on the American Optimist YouTube channel and spoke about protecting children from various internet crimes.
During his discussion, Kutcher said he sees “a massive regulatory battle on the horizon” for TikTok, a popular video-sharing social media platform, as it is powered by ByteDance, a technology company. Internet headquartered in Beijing.
“If I am China and want to create a problem in this part of the world – especially a naval problem in the South China Sea, I would probably like to use TikTok to influence the minds of Americans…” said the actor. .

He noted that such social media platforms can be used to create “an anti-American propaganda, an anti-Taiwan propaganda effort” that could lead to an “extraordinarily unpopular US war.”
“I think most people believe there is media manipulation and disinformation campaigns, but not through their sources,” the “Ranch” actor continued. “I think that’s wrong and I think we’re about to face some math in this particular area and it’s probably going to change what social media looks like in the future.”

Speaking as a “staunch American,” Kutcher said such campaigns become “extraordinarily dangerous” for the country.
“My feeling is that what social media is today is not what social media will be five years from now,” he added. “If the trendline continues on the same path as it is today, my kids will not be on social media. If the trendline rotates as I probably think it does, there is a change that I will allow them to do. ‘use.”
