PARIS: Back in the national team after more than seven months, the star compound archer Jyothi Surekha Vennam Tuesday emerged as the best among the Indians with a second-place finish in the World Cup Stage 3 qualifying round here.
World Championship silver medalist Jyothi, who failed to make the Indian squad for the asian gameswas back to her best as she shot 712 points to finish second to Great Britain’s Ella Gibson.
At the Jyothi show, the Indian women’s team finished third, while the mixed team also got an identical ranking as they will reunite with the star male compound archer. Abishek Verma.
A former Asian Games gold medalist, Verma was the best among Indian men’s archers, finishing sixth in qualifying as the team secured the fourth seed.
World No. 3 Jyothi was shockingly ousted from India’s squad for the Asian Games and the first three World Cup stages during the domestic trial in March this year.
She made a comeback after the national federation (AAI) staged new trials for Stage 3 of the World Cup following the postponement of the Asian Games.
All eyes would now be on the world number 3 Deepika Kumari in the classic qualifying round which starts on Wednesday. Deepika also makes a comeback after her Tokyo Olympics debacle last year.
