Two American tourists in Mexico have been injured in a crocodile attack.

The tourists were in the Mexican resort town of Puerto Vallarta when one of the individuals went swimming and was attacked by a crocodile. When the second person entered the water to help, they too were attacked by the crocodile, according to the civil defense office in the western state of Jalisco in a Facebook post on Wednesday.

A man was injured in the legs, chest, arm and abdomen, officials said. The other man was injured in the hand and upper thigh.

According to the Facebook post, the men were from Colorado. They received medical attention from first responders after the attack and then transported to a local hospital.
