A Capitol Police officer who fired a gun inside the Cannon office building in Washington, DC on Tuesday morning has been suspended pending an investigation.

‘The Capitol Police Office of Professional Responsibility (OPR) is investigating the discharge of a USCP weapon inside a break room at the Cannon Office Building,’ Capitol Police said. of the United States in a press release. “The officer has been suspended while the OPR investigates the incident.”

“At this time, we cannot comment further as this is an open investigation,” a department spokesperson added in an email to Fox News Digital.

CQ Roll Call reported the incident was an accident on the part of the officer, citing three sources familiar with the matter.
