OSTRAVA (Czech Republic): Barbora Krejcikova clinched a second straight WTA title with a stunning victory from behind over world number one Iga Swiatek in the Ostrava final on Sunday.
The world number 23 triumphed 5-7, 7-6 (7/4), 6-3 to add the Czech trophy to her victory in Tallinn last weekend.
Krejcikova’s success ended French and US Open champion Swiatek’s 10-game winning streak and gave the 26-year-old Czech a fifth career singles title.
Swiatek, who earned her 60th victory of the season on Saturday, qualified for Sunday’s final after winning her two previous meetings with Krejcikova.
The 21-year-old Pole won in straight sets on the hard courts of Miami last year before a three-set victory on clay in Rome two months later.
On Sunday, Krejcikova took the difficult route to victory after leading 5-1 in the first set before battling to win the match in three hours and 16 minutes.
For Swiatek, it was only his second career loss in 12 finals, and the first in three years.
