BIRMINGHAM: “We are an evolving team,” Indian women’s cricket head coach Ramesh Powar has said, hinting that different combinations could be seen in upcoming Commonwealth Games matches.
India beat Barbados by 100 points to qualify for the semi-finals of the Birmingham Games.
Jemimah Rodrigues, who was promoted to number three, played a vital 56-point shot.
“We are an evolving team and processes and plans will change. We are trying to make the most of it,” Powar said on the eve of India’s semi-final against England.
“We think Jemi is ready for this as she has been playing in England for a while. We thought we would take a chance with her,” he added.
India has also introduced Taniya Bhatia instead of Yastika Bhatiawho feared in the eleven of game during the matches against Sri Lanka recently.
“When you go into a showpiece event, you’re ready with the players and all 15 are available. It’s not a bilateral where you try out a player and see what they can do. It’s a showpiece event and we want to use everything we have in our arsenal.
“We thought Taniya could be a game-changer in terms of the wicket outfit because we are playing with quality bowlers and she has been very good and I think the look of the outfit becomes different when we choose her,” Powar said.
India are just one win away from securing a medal and Powar says women are inspired by the long jump Murali Sreeshankarthe money earning display.
“It gave us goosebumps. We were watching our long jumper win the money, that boy was trying so hard. Our job is to go out there and try as hard as he was, he was an inspiration to us,” he added.
