Vermont Senator Patrick Leahy suffers a broken hip following a fall at his home in McLean, Virginia on Wednesday night.
In a statement, the 82-year-old Democrat’s office said he will undergo surgery to repair his hip Thursday morning.
“Being born blind in one eye, the senator had a lifelong struggle with reduced depth perception. He’s taken some remarkable beatings over the years, but this one finally caught up with him,” said Leahy’s office.
Doctors determined the best course of action would be to have surgery “as soon as possible,” her office said.
