Vice President Kamala Harris called on leaders to act after the deadly mass shooting at an elementary school in Uvalde, Texas on Tuesday.
“Every time a tragedy like this happens, our hearts break and our broken hearts are nothing compared to the broken hearts of these families,” Harris said.
Harris, speaking at an American Asia-Pacific Institute for Congressional Studies (APAICS), urged leaders to act.

“Enough is enough. As a nation, we need to have the courage to take action and understand the connection between what makes for reasonable and sensible public policy to ensure something like this doesn’t happen again,” Harris said.

Harris referenced recent mass shootings in Buffalo, New York, as well as Laguna Woods, California and Dallas, saying there was a “new sense of urgency” to take a stand against evil in America. “Today we witness again and again the terrible consequences of hate and the consequences of violence,” Harris said.
A shooter identified as Salvador Ramos opened fire at Robb Elementary School on Tuesday, killing more than a dozen children on Tuesday, Texas Governor Greg Abbott mentioned. Two officers suffered gunshot wounds but were expected to survive, Abbott said.

As the elementary school shooting unfolded, Uvalde Mayor Don McLaughlin told Fox News the shooter barricaded himself inside the school, which is located 80 miles east. west of San Antonio and serves second, third and fourth graders.

President Biden ordered on Tuesday that all American flags at the White House and public buildings be flown at half-mast to honor the victims of the Uvalde school shooting that claimed the lives of 15 people, including many children .
The order also applies to all military posts, naval stations and ships until sunset on Saturday. Biden will address the shoot at 8:15 p.m. ET from the Roosevelt Room at the White House.
