Missing prison officer Vicky White and prisoner Casey White have been arrested after being caught following a car chase with runaway chasers, the US Marshals.

Mr. White, who was awaiting trial in a capital murder case, disappeared with Ms. White after leaving a detention center in Florence, Alabama.

On April 29, Ms White told her colleagues that the 38-year-old inmate was due at the courthouse for a mental health assessment.

Later that day, when she did not answer the phone, authorities discovered that no such assessment had been scheduled.

Ms White’s patrol car was also found abandoned in a shopping centre.

On Monday, police reported the couple – who are not related – were arrested after a truck they were in, being chased by U.S. Marshals, crashed in the Indiana town of Evansville .

Ms White, 56, was taken to hospital.

said Lauderdale County Sheriff Rick Singleton. “It ended a very long, stressful and difficult week and a half. It ended as we knew it. They are in custody.”

The US Marshals, a federal law enforcement agency that deals with, among other things, tracking fugitives, said they received a tip that the Ford pickup truck they were in had been spotted in a lava. -car in Evansville.

‘Special relationship’

Investigators believe it was stolen in Tennessee about 175 miles away.

Mr White was serving a 75-year sentence for a series of crimes including attempted murder, robbery and burglary.

He was facing a new murder charge for stabbing a 58-year-old woman.

Police said there had been “a special relationship” between him and Ms White in prison.
