KARACHI: Former captain and head coach of Pakistan Misbah-ul-Haq has said changing the chairman of the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) will make no difference to the sport in the country.
“We need a change in the way we run our cricket structure and change our priorities,” Misbah told Geo News.
He said former Prime Minister Imran Khan’s decision to quit county cricket and their role in the sport appeared to have done Pakistani cricket or any other discipline no good.
“It has now been three years since departments or institutions had any role in cricket and other sports and what have we achieved so far?” he asked.
Misbah noted that departments and institutions that used to spend money on cricket were now spending that money elsewhere.
“They formed provincial association teams for national cricket, but that only caused administrative problems.”
Misbah said there was nothing wrong with the PCB experimenting with a new national cricket structure, but at the same time the old county cricket system could only have been scrapped after the new system would have started to produce dividends.
On expected changes to the cricket board, Misbah argued that a face change would make no difference.
“I think whoever the chairman is, we should have a vision on how to run our cricket. It doesn’t matter who the chairman is or if there are changes in the board, the system shouldn’t change and cricket should continue.”
