NEW DELHI: Amid rising Covid-19 cases in some states and fear of the emergence of a new variant of SARS-CoV2, Union Health Minister Mansukh Mandaviya has reviewed the situation and provided an update on the XE variant on Tuesday. In a meeting with senior officials and experts, Mandaviya gave instructions to strengthen ongoing monitoring and surveillance of new variants and new cases.
He also asked officials to continuously review the availability of essential medicines and drugs needed to treat Covid-19 patients.
Later, while downplaying apprehensions regarding the XE variant, Mandaviya stressed the need to maintain precautions.

The Minister of Health also said that the prices of Covid-19 vaccines are expected to drop further, as several companies will now start offering competitive prices.
