Biden HHS Sec. Becerra suggests supporting taxpayer-funded gender change procedures on children

Health and Human Services Secretary Xavier Becerra appeared on Wednesday to voice support for taxpayer funds being spent on sex reassignment surgeries on children.

“In this gender-affirming care, Mr. Secretary, has there been taxpayer money put forward to fund mastectomies, metonymies and hysterectomies for the purpose of gender reassignment for minors with gender dysphoria? Republican Congresswoman Lauren Boebert asked Becerra during a hearing on Wednesday.

“Well, Americans have a right to receive health care services. They have a right to receive all of the cases you just mentioned,” Becerra replied.

Later in the exchange, Boebert asked Becerra about a document suggesting removing children from homes is “on the table” if parents deny their children gender-affirming care.

“Mr. Secretary, do you think parents who only believe in two sexes should have their children taken away?” Boebert asked?

Becerra replied, “I can respond very quickly. Congressman, I believe in supporting and protecting transgender youth. I believe that they, and their parents and caregivers, will make the best decisions, and I urge really politicians, like you, stay out of their business.”

Last week, the Biden administration released a series of documents encouraging sex reassignment surgery and hormone treatments for minors.

The Department of Health and Human Services’ Bureau of Population Affairs has issued a document entitled “Gender Affirmation Care and Young People”. On the same day, the National Child Traumatic Stress Network of the Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration – another subset of HHS – published a parallel document titled “Gender-affirming care is trauma-informed care”.

The HHS documents outline what they call appropriate treatments for transgender teens, including: “‘upper’ surgery – to create a typical male breast shape or breast enhancement;” and “‘Bottom’ surgery – genital or reproductive surgery, facial feminization or other procedures.”
