Employees of the US Embassy in Ukraine claimed the Biden administration was leaving them behind by not helping them escape, and although the State Department confirmed they were providing financial assistance , they didn’t say they were actively helping anyone on the floor.
Earlier this month, embassy workers sent a letter to the State Department, reported by Foreign Policy magazine, in which they said there had been “a change in tone and open denial of previous promises” regarding financial assistance and security.

“We are exploring all legal options to support our team during this difficult time,” a State Department spokesperson said in a statement to Fox News, noting that the administration has “already taken important steps.”
The spokesperson went on to outline a number of steps the State Department has taken to help, such as paid administrative leave for any staff unable to work, and “additional financial support to local staff,” such as the advance payment of their wages “to help enable them to move themselves and their families to safety.”

The Department of State has also set up a communication line for staff to submit any questions or concerns.
The State Department did not address the issue of security assistance. Fox News reached out to them to see if they had any plans on it, but they didn’t immediately respond.

Meanwhile, outside organizations are helping embassy workers flee Ukraine, just as private groups helped Afghans flee Afghanistan when the United States withdrew from that country and the Taliban took over. power.

Fox News has confirmed that the State Department does not fund or assist these groups to help get Embassy personnel and their families out of the country.
