Virginia Republican gubernatorial candidate Glenn Youngkin said on Saturday that if elected the next Commonwealth governor, he would “ban” the teaching of critical race theory on his first day in office.
Youngkin’s remarks came as he spoke about the educational improvements he would implement in the state if elected.

“We all know education starts with the curriculum,” Youngkin told supporters at a rally on Saturday. “We will teach all of history, the good and the bad.”

“America has fabulous chapters and it’s the greatest country in the world, but we also have important chapters in our history, we have to teach them,” Youngkin added, saying that under his administration the kids don’t. will not learn “to see everything through a bred lens.”

“We know in our hearts that it’s wrong,” Youngkin said. “Dr. Martin Luther King begged us to judge each other based on the content of our character and not the color of our skin. Therefore, from day one, I will ban Critical Race Theory in our schools. “

A Fox News Poll earlier this month revealed that a strong majority of Virginia parents said they should tell schools what to teach their children, amid high-profile controversies over transgender politics and critical race theory in schools across the state.

The education debate peaked in Northern Virginia, where parents gathered in droves to voice concerns about COVID-19 policies, transgender policies and critical race theory, a framework that involves deconstructing aspects of society to uncover “systemic racism” beneath the surface. Some parents called the CRT a divide, saying it encourages white students to see themselves as oppressors.
