At least 27 people from a Jewish group were hospitalized Tuesday evening with food poisoning upon their return from Ukraine to New York, according to media reports.
The group traveled to Ukraine with a spiritual leader, who returned a day earlier and fell ill on his way home, Hamodia reported. The report says 18 boys from Brooklyn and nine from upstate New York have been admitted to hospitals. Others were under evaluation.
They allegedly ate tuna sandwiches before their departure flight. Some started to feel bad on the trip and after landing they boarded a bus to Borough Park, Brooklyn.
The bus stopped in a garage and some were transported to hospital by ambulances from the local Hatzalah, a volunteer medical emergency service present in some Jewish communities.
