Fox News has separately contacted Valle-Riestra and Senator Durbin’s office for comment.
Asked about the staff member’s tweet, Senator Durbin’s communications director, Emily Hampsten, replied: “Senators Durbin and Manchin are friends. They work closely together on many important issues. Any other interpretation misrepresents the relationship.”
Valle-Riestra did not respond to comments.
The Charleston Gazette-Mail in Charleston, West Virginia, ran a Manchin editorial on Sunday in which he announced his opposition to the Democrat-backed Voting Rights Bill S.1, known as For the People Act, and reaffirmed its opposition to removing the obstruction. CNN left-wing anchors Don Lemon and Chris Cuomo lambasted Manchin for supporting filibuster. The New York Times also called the senator’s moderate stance a refusal to fight voter suppression and not wanting to re-establish “ethical controls.”
