“Real Time” host Bill Maher challenged those who jumped to the conclusion that the fatal shootings at massage parlors in the Atlanta area this week were an anti-Asian hate crime.
Much of the mainstream media and the Democratic Party condemned racism against Asian Americans after it was reported that six of the eight victims who died at a trio of massage parlors were of Asian descent despite the missing evidence in an ongoing investigation into hatred towards this community was motive.
Kicking off his show on Friday night, Maher began by praising President Biden’s remarks about the increased rate of hate crimes against Asian Americans, but pointed out that the shooting “says a lot about our tribalism and our inability to see evidence as opposed to it would fit the narrative we already believe. “
He then quoted FBI Director Christopher Wray, who said that “it doesn’t appear” the shooting was racially motivated and juxtaposed Wray’s remarks with those of Representative Marilyn Strickland, D-Wash., Who dismissed the idea that the shooting had engendered “economic anxiety or sexual addiction.”

“But what if that is Maher asked. “All I’ve read about this guy, Robert Aaron Long, Conservative Baptist, is an albino assassin.” He whips himself because he feels bad about sex, “ sex drive, shouldn’t do that, porn addiction, massage parlors, seeking treatment for sex addiction. The roommate said: ‘Whenever we talked about visiting massage parlors it was in the context of God and his parents. ”
“Wouldn’t the roommate know it was a matter of race?” Maher asked.
He continued, “Maybe we’ll find something that’s not there, but it seems people are insisting, ‘No that’s what I thought it was and I’m just going to insist.'”

Former US Senator Heidi Heitkamp responded by reversing Wray’s remarks.
“How does he know it wasn’t a question of race?” the North Dakota Democrat demanded, urging Wray to “complete his investigation” before ruling out racism.
Heitkamp also complained that the country “does not face issues” like anti-Asian racism “until we have a mass shooting.”

Reason magazine editor Nick Gillespie fired back, denouncing Heitkamp’s insistence that it was a hate crime.
“I really feel like if it were Armenians running the massage parlors, he would have killed Armenians,” Maher said.
“We don’t know, Bill! Heitkamp exclaimed.

“We do not know!” Maher agreed. “What we know – I mean, the roommate … the roommate – is what he said in the privacy of his home. Wouldn’t he have said it there?”
Gillespie then hit out on former President Trump, accusing Trump of using ‘racist’ rhetoric that branded the coronavirus as Chinese, but also pointed out that ‘turning this particular instance into something that might not be, that will not ultimately help you reach people. who are racist. “

“May I just point out that sexual guilt related to religion is also an important thing,” Maher interjected. “It’s been millennia. and love to control you. ”
Maher later said, “Is it so hard to keep two thoughts in our minds at the same time, that this epidemic of violence against Asians is horrible and we need to do something about it and it probably doesn’t. not gone! It’s just something else! ”
