“Bachelor” star Rachael Kirkconnell has defended Matt James from racist slurs after revealing they split after the show.
James ended up choosing Kirkconnell over all the other women on this season of “The Bachelor”. However, he revealed during the “After the Final Rose” special that he broke up with her following an offscreen racism scandal that ultimately led longtime host Chris Harrison to quit his role in the series.
Some viewers did not like James’ decision and attacked the first Black Bachelor with racist slurs on social media. Kirkconnell clearly saw that the online vitriol was directed at the person she still calls the love of her life, and decided to make it clear that she didn’t want that kind of support.

“I am taken aback by what I saw this evening. If you think that attacking a person close to my heart with racist slurs is what I would like, you have never listened to it,” he said. she writes in her Instagram story on Thursday. “Some of the things I’ve seen about Matt are disgusting.”

“I respect the decisions Matt had to make during this experience,” the reality TV star continued. “If you are directing the hate at him, please stop. Acknowledge someone’s humanity and think about the impact of your words.”

On the “After the Final Rose” special, James admitted that the controversy surrounding the photos of Kirkconnell attending an “Old South” party, with a TikTok user accusing him of harassing her in the past for dating an black man and allegedly liking racist photos – – all played a part in his decision to end things. The scandal also indirectly led longtime host Chris Harrison to step down as host.

“If you don’t understand that something like this is a problem in 2018, there’s a lot of me that you won’t understand. It’s that simple,” he said at the time.
